What is the Bible?

The Bible (sometimes also called Scripture) is a large text comprised of 66 smaller texts called books (or Bible books, books of the Bible, etc.). Each of these books has a distinct name that usually identifies their theme (like Genesis, Proverbs, and Revelation) or author (like Matthew, John, or Luke). Each book is further broken down into chapters and verses to make it easy to quickly find specific sections of the Bible. This article provides a short, accessible overview of how these books are grouped and organized: How to Understand the Big Picture of the Bible.
